The Flight of the Barn Owl

The Flight of the Barn Owl captures a barn owl in mid-flight, its wings extended in a broad arc as the bird turns through the air. The elevated form gives the sculpture a strong sense of movement, while the layered driftwood defines the body and individually formed feathers.

Beneath the detailed surface is a concealed stainless steel armature. Even the smaller feathers are reinforced with steel rods, drilled into the driftwood and welded to the internal structure, giving strength to the extended form while preserving the light appearance of the bird.
