The Flight of the Barn Owl
A moment captured mid-flight — the barn owl wheels through the air, wings outstretched in a graceful arc, eyes locked on an unseen quarry below. Perhaps a wayward dormouse… or perhaps, simply the joy of flight.
Suspended on a three-metre post of recycled marine-grade stainless steel, the sculpture defies gravity. The post, sculpted with organic flow, disappears into the viewer’s subconscious, allowing the owl to soar-untethered, ethereal, and free.
Though it appears delicate, almost weightless, the owl is surprisingly robust. Beneath the fine detail of each feather lies a hidden armature of stainless steel. Even the smallest feathers are reinforced with steel rods, drilled deep within and welded onto this structure —a harmony of fragility and fortitude.
