The Chelsea Unicorn
“God’s Own Country,” as James’s good friend David fondly calls it, deserves a fitting tribute—and in his honour, James created his first unicorn. A symbol of Scotland and a creature steeped in myth across the world, this unicorn stands over 3 metres tall, crowned with a horn carved from the rare, long-dead wood of the Balayong tree, which blossoms only once every decade or so.
Because the tree cannot produce viable seeds until it flowers, Balayong seedlings are notoriously hard to come by. Nevertheless, James has planted over 500 of them as part of his 80,000-tree reforestation initiative.
