The Barn Owl's Respite
A returning favorite, James’ much-loved owls appear once more—this time in quiet contemplation. The Barn Owl’s Repose captures a moment of stillness, as the bird perches gracefully atop an early 20th-century sleeper rail, once part of the steam railways that carried sugarcane to the refineries.
These aged sleepers, hewn from a remarkably resilient specie of hardwood, have rested beneath the earth for nearly a century with minimal decay—a testament to the enduring strength of this wood.
The owl’s talons are crafted from recycled stainless steel, each one carefully formed and welded onto a concealed armature that extends seamlessly from the post through the body all the way to the tip of the beak, each piece ready to endure for another century!
