Magnet Snails
Small Magnet Snail and Large Magnet Snail are two individual driftwood sculptures by James Doran-Webb. Made at different scales, both combine a low driftwood body with a carved spiral shell and incorporate a magnet so that the sculpture can be displayed on a suitable metal surface.
Small Magnet Snail
Small Magnet Snail reduces the familiar shape of a snail to a compact little sculpture. Its driftwood body stretches forward beneath the rounded spiral shell, with fine tentacles projecting from the head and giving the piece a clear sense of direction. At this scale, the contrast between the irregular driftwood and the smoother carved shell becomes especially noticeable.

Large Magnet Snail
Large Magnet Snail develops the same idea at a larger scale. The broad spiral shell rises above a long, naturally shaped driftwood body, while the head and extended tentacles reach forward close to the surface. Its greater size reveals more of the knots, grain and changing edges of the driftwood while keeping the silhouette simple and immediately recognisable.
