First Jump catches a small bird in a poised, upward-looking stance, its head lifted and long tail extending behind the body. Layered pieces of driftwood build texture through the chest, back and wings, while the narrow legs and compact base keep the composition light. The change of direction between the raised head and sweeping tail gives the sculpture a lively sense of movement despite its small scale.
